Godzilla Minus One

Our zine explores how Godzilla Minus One transforms Japan’s wartime trauma into a cinematic reflection of resilience and national identity. Through a creative research process combining semiotic analysis and collective memory frameworks, the project examines key visual and narrative symbols such as Godzilla’s radioactive body, the kamikaze pilot’s guilt, and the scientist’s speech to decode how the film reframes ideas of sacrifice, nationalism, and collective survival.  By translating complex cultural analysis into accessible visual storytelling, the zine demonstrates how cinema can function as both historical remembrance and cultural soft power within global discourse.
